Bill Gates Research Paper free essay sample

Building a Billion Dollar Empire â€Å"People always fear change. People feared electricity when it was invented, didnt they? People feared coal, they feared gas-powered engines There will always be ignorance, and ignorance leads to fear. But with time, people will come to accept their silicon masters,†Bill Gates. The world’s youngest billionaire is the hard working, intelligent Bill Gates. This man independently started his own computer company and built it up to a 230 billion dollar empire. Bill Gates changed the way the world uses computers by building his company, Microsoft, from the ground up, enforcing that computer software is illegal to steal, and by making personal computers available for everyone to have in their own home. Bill Gates started his computer company,Microsoft, and worked relentlessly to make his company a success. Gates was fascinated with computers all of his life and started his first computer programming business with his friends when he was only in the eighth grade (Schuman 25). His round the clock working on his company eventually paid off. In 1981 Gate’s company’s revenues were up to 16 million dollars, however this was not enough for Gates. He desired and planned to run every other computer company out of business (Strother 76). Being a strong and fearless businessman helped Gates accomplish his goals of running his competitors out of business and building Microsoft into the company that it is today. Gates built up his company from a few employees in a small office to one of the worlds largest computer companies with his hard work and dreams of having computers available to everyone. With his company Gates created new computer software that improved how computers worked and made them easier for everyone to use. Building Microsoft contributed greatly to making technology as advanced as it is now. Not only did Gates build Microsoft but he also showed people that they would not get away with stealing computer software. Bill Gates and his company prosecuted many individuals and companies for software theft to show the world that intellectual property cannot be stolen without punishment. In 1998 Gates noticed that there was a huge gap between the number of computers being sold each year and the number of computer software. He quickly realized that many people were stealing computer software online. Gates knew that using computer software without paying was illegal and he intended to make everyone that stole their software pay the price for their crime. When Microsoft first discovered that their software was being stolen they decided that if people were going to steal software then they should steal Microsoft’s software and eventually Gates would find a way to collect money from his stolen property. Microsoft went after over 80 companies that they discovered were using their computer software without purchasing it and they pressed legal action and in the end got the money they had earned (Down to Earth). Before Microsoft prosecuted these companies for illegally downloading software, stealing intellectual property online was not considered important and legal action was almost never taken against those who committed the theft. Thanks to Bill Gates and his company intellectual theft is now taken much more seriously in the eyes of the law. While Gates pursued many people who wronged his company he continued to go after his dream of having a computer in every home. â€Å"Microsoft has spent its first 15 years blazing the trail to the personal computer. Its intent was to make the PC available and accessible to everyone† (Strother 84). Bill Gates dream since he was in college was to have a computer available to everyone in their home. Originally his idea seemed silly to his friends, the thought that uneducated ordinary people without special training in computers would have access to one in their home, but to Gates it was a very real possibility. His dreams are the reason that computers are now available at low prices and are easy to use and understand. Gates wanted this dream to become a reality so people could have easier access to information and to push the limits of technology further. Due to the nonstop efforts of Bill Gates and his co workers computers are available in the majority of homes and also in libraries and other public places like hotels and internet cafes. Making computers accessible to the general public has made Gates a well liked man around the world. Bill Gates is a very well respected man to almost everyone in the world. His hard work and dedication to building his company without having it handed to him has gained him respect from many. Although throughout the years there have been times when Bill Gates has appeared rude and arrogant for example in 1998 his company lost a legal battle over Microsoft having monopoly over computers which lost him popularity in the publics eye (India Today) but he has always recovered his reputation. Bill Gates has forever changed the way that people look at computers and has done the public a great service by improving technology which has improved the day to day lives of most Americans. Even though some many despise Gates because he is the most wealthy person in the world the general opinion of him is very positive. By building the his company, protecting intellectual property that belonged to him, and making computers available to everyone in their home Bill Gates has permanently changed the way the world uses computers. His never ending hard work and constant need to improve upon his work has made Bill Gates the wealthiest man in the world. Although in the beginning his dreams and ideas of the technology of the future seemed frivolous to most they have now become a reality because Gates never gave up and pushed through the hard times to make his dreams come true. Gilmore Girls Critical Review Essays

Gilmore Girls Critical Review Essays Gilmore Girls Critical Review Essay Gilmore Girls Critical Review Essay More Than Family In 2000, The WB television network introduced the world to the Gilmore girls. Set in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, Gilmore Girls is a charming television drama that tells the story of a single mother, Lorelai Gilmore, and her teenage daughter, Rory, as they navigate their way through the shifting tides of day-to-day life. Lorelai and Rorys relationship is one built out of friendship as much as it is based on maternal love, which allows for more drama and depth than most family shows. Lorelai played by Lauren Graham is a relatable character because she has built up her life from nothing since she got pregnant and left home. In her first television role Alexis Bledel, Rory, showed depth in her character and was relatable to many teens who watched the show. Rory gets thrust into the prestigious school Chilton that her grandparents pay for in return Rory and her mother must go to family dinner every Friday night. This starts conflict because Lorelai hasn’t had a good relationship with her parents since she got pregnant with Rory at sixteen. Richard and Emily Gilmore, Rory’s grandparents, played by Edward Herrmann and Kelly Bishop are rich and are not afraid to flaunt their wealth around. This ensures a lot of conflict between them and Lorelai because she doesn’t want any of their money and nothing to do with them. Rory’s best friend Lane, Keiko Agnea, is a Korean American who just want to play rock-n-roll, but her mother is stuck in her Korean ways and wants Lane to go to church and find a nice Korean boy to marry someday. : Once Rory graduated Chilton she goes to Yale, her grandfather’s alma mater. Lorelai is not happy about this because she thinks Rory is picking her grandparents over her mother. At Yale, Rory aspires to be a journalist and has tough times on the Yale newspaper team. Gilmore Girls started out as an alternative show to watch when all of the sexual innuendo ridden television shows were not what people wanted to watch. Gilmore Girls shows the depths of parenthood between a young mother and her teenage daughter. The strong relationship between the mother-daughter duo is most like a friendship. The issues of raising a teen daughter when Lorelai had to give up hers to raise Rory seemed like it had its tough points but was doable if you just stuck with it. The bickering between Lorelai and her parents sometimes got old, but it was a comfort because all children and parents fight. The small town of Stars Hollow had many characters that lit up the screen and made you want to visit occasionally but not live there. The money of each episode was spent mostly on the wardrobe because there were many costume change throughout the entire episodes. Also, getting the permit to film in the town is part of the production cost. In most of the episodes there were no special effects. When television all television shows were constantly bringing up sexual innuendos and sexual content Gilmore Girls went outside the norm and showed a somewhat wholesome television show about a mother-daughter relationship. This relationship wasn’t perfect, and there was a lot of conflict in the show. The truthfulness of the show kept people coming back week after week and it became a show people talked about. This show had seven seasons and throughout all the years the show kept it sizzle. The relationship was most like a friendship but at times there was conflict between them and there was a motherly side when you didn’t think there would This show changed society by not being normal but going outside the box and showed chemistry between a young mom and her teenage daughter. Set in a storybook Connecticut town populated by an eclectic mix of dreamers, artists and everyday folk, this multigenerational drama about family and friendship centers around Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. Lorelai owns the towns bed-and-breakfast, the Dragonfly Inn, with best friend/chef Sookie, and contends with weekly dinners with eccentric, well-off parents Richard and Emily Gilmore (who always have something to say about their daughters life). After high school, Rory attends Yale University but frequently returns to Stars Hollow to visit her mom
